Jupiter the fifth planet from the sun is known for being the largest planet in our solar system. It is so massive that it is more than twice the size of all the other planets combined. Its size has always been a topic of fascination leading to the question of how many earths can fit in Jupiter?
The Size of Jupiter
The diameter of Jupiter is approximately 86881 miles which is about 11 times the diameter of Earth. Its mass on the other hand is around 318 times more than that of Earth. Jupiter’s huge size is due to its predominantly gaseous composition which consists mainly of hydrogen helium.
Calculating the Number of Earths That Can Fit in Jupiter
To estimate how many Earths can fit inside Jupiter we must first compare their volumes. The volume of Jupiter can be calculated by using the formula for the volume of a sphere which is 4/3πr3 where r is the radius of the sphere. The mean radius of Jupiter is approximately 43440 miles giving us a volume of about 1.4 trillion cubic kilometers.
The volume of Earth can be calculated in the same way which gives us approximately 1.08 billion cubic kilometers. Dividing Jupiter’s volume by Earth’s volume gives us about 1321000 or about 1.3 million Earths could fit inside Jupiter.
