What Disease Did Morbius Have?
Jonathan Drew also known as Morbius is a fictional character published by Marvel Comics. He first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 in 1971.
Morbius was a brilliant biochemist who developed a cure for his rare blood disease. Unfortunately the cure had a severe side effect which turned him into a vampire-like creature.
The Blood Disease
The exact name of Morbius’s blood disease was never revealed in the comics but it was described as a rare fatal condition that affected his red blood cells.
In the comics it was mentioned that Morbius developed the disease as a result of a genetic mutation. However the cause of the mutation was never explained.
It is worth noting that in the 1990s animated TV series Spider-Man: The Animated Series the disease was given a name. It was called “Morbius Syndrome.”
The Cure
Morbius spent years researching a cure for his blood disease he eventually developed a serum that he believed would cure him. However when he tested the serum on himself it had unexpected terrifying side effects.
The serum turned Morbius into a vampire-like creature giving him superhuman strength speed agility the ability to fly. However it also caused him to develop an insatiable thirst for blood.
Treatment Management
As Morbius’s condition was caused by a genetic mutation there was no known cure for his vampiric state. He needed regular blood transfusions to survive he developed a serum that allowed him to temporarily suppress his vampire impulses.
Over the years Morbius has struggled with his condition trying to find a cure while also battling his thirst for blood.
